Introduction
Welcome to the web site of the East Central Chapter of the Irish Woodturners' Guild, (IWG).
This chapter was set up in 2005 to serve the interests of Guild members living mainly in North
Dublin. However membership is open to anyone with an interest in woodturning. From the beginning the chapter
has also attracted regular support from neighbouring groups.
The venue, the Scout Hall attached to the Lorcan Community Centre in Santry, is an ideal location having ample
room for any number attending, with plenty of space for cars and easy to find if planning to visit for the first
time.
Membership
New members are always welcome and if one is not already in the IWG he or she may attend one of our meetings as
a visitor to see if membership appeals before committing. Currently individual membership for a year costs 54 euro
also entitling one to attend the meetings of all other chapters throughout the country. A quarterly
journal provides information and news on most woodturning activities in Ireland. A further advantage of membership
is access to the special Guild insurance, almost essential for turners giving lessons or selling their work.
Further information about the Guild is available on their web site.
Monthly meetings
The chapter usually meets on the second Saturday of the month and activities run between 2 and 5 pm. After
announcements and any relevant news about Guild affairs there follows a demonstration of a woodturning project.
There is a break halfway for refreshment with an opportunity to meet other people, and exchange views. Occasionally
a trade stand run by a chapter member, is present giving an opportunity to buy tools, finishes and other turning
essentials. A book and video club is also available to members. Competitions are organised from time to time
depending on interest.
AGM
This takes place usually in November when the committee members are elected by members present.
Annual reports from the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary are also presented to the meeting.
